Tamarind Sauce

Who loves INDIAN FOOD?

Indian food has to be my Favorite food of all time.  I have gone to many indian restaurants and I absolutely LOVE the appetizers they bring out! My fiance and I’s favorite is the all famous tamarind sauce!  It is sweet and savory.

This sauce is a perfect dip for Papadum, which are indian lentil crackers, or an ethic indian cuisine.  You can find them as well as other ingredients for this recipe at an indian market/grocery store.

Tamarind Sauce

Print Recipe
Serves: 8 Cooking Time: 40 Minutes

  • 1 Tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 2 tsp Cumin powder
  • 2 tsp Ginger powder
  • 2 tsp Fennel Seeds
  • 1 tsp Cayenne Pepper
  • 1tsp Garam Masala
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 3 Tbsp Tamarind paste
  • 1 Cup Raw Honey

Heat coconut oil in a pot over medium heat and mix in all of the spices for about 2 minutes. Keep mixing and be careful not to let the spices burn.

Pour water into pot and scoop out tamarind paste (you can get the paste from actual tamarind's that you peal and discard the seeds and outer shell, or buy a packet of tamarind paste) in with the spices. Bring to a boil and let the sauce simmer over low heat for 20-30 minutes, or until the sauce becomes a little thick and creamier.

Once completed, let the sauce cool. Once cooled, mix in the honey (we want to put the honey in now so we do not loose the nutrition of the honey from the heat).

Mix well and enjoy!
